One could not have written a better script

The VB series has been fascinating. You could not have written a better script. It’s been neck and neck all the way and has provided a roller coaster ride of mammoth proportions.

If you had this many twists and turns and intrigue in any book or movie you would certainly have got your money’s worth.

The form team so far, and I say so far, has been those damn Kiwi’s and their leadership has been inspiring.

There was a poignant moment during the 9th game on Sunday between New Zealand and South Africa that prompted all sorts of images in my mind.

Stephen Fleming played a ball that was rolling perilously close to his stumps and after finally locating it’s path he managed to get some bat on it and deflect it. This prompted smiles all round and Herschelle Gibbs, who is never far from the action, stood side by side with Fleming and shared a comment or two.

The Channel Nine television producer, keen to pounce on a moment, provided the viewer with a shot from behind that reflected the numbers of the two players. Filling our screens at home were the 00 of Gibbs and the 7 of the New Zealand skipper. 007 no less.

The connections between 007 and the Kiwi’s are numerous. Not only have they escaped triumphantly from any number of tricky situations, they have a Bond providing a great deal of excitement – Bond…..Shane Bond. We must also remember that Ian Fleming, namesake of Stephen, penned the classics that we have all enjoyed over the years.

There have also been villains galore with some of the umpires topping that list and the heroes have more often than not been wearing black. One or two old stagers have had a new lease on life and re-emerged back onto center stage and a couple of new faces have influenced the story line.

Undoubtedly the star of the thriller as it enters its final chapters has been Michael Bevan.

The plot has been worthy of a best seller but sadly from my perspective the home side has at times….….lost the plot.

The sequel will be a smaller volume but just as intense when the Australians arrive here mid February.

We will all be shaken…..and stirred !!!!
