Holding's protest serves no purpose

My initial impression on my first visit of the Caribbean is that this place is cricket crazy. No matter where you go, all and sundry associate you immediately with the South African Tour and they quickly settle into rapid fire question time.
The people of rum and sun are very knowledgeable about the game and certainly have some very strong opinions, right now, mostly about Michael Holding’s stance regarding his non appearance in the commentary team.
As you would expect in Guyana, the comments are scathing. I’m sure a more balanced view will be encountered on our further travels.
My view is that he has always been a man of principle. He has made a very strong stance – and I feel that he is wrong.
We are missing the chance to hear one of the best cricket commentators around. I just wonder if it might not have been more productive if he had continued to work and expressed his views on air.
This is a very exciting part of the world that is full of colourful characters. Speaking of which, we have a colourful character of our own at the moment Mike Procter!
You might have noticed him wearing a splendid array of bright shirts on air. Every morning he has rushed out and purchased a new shirt for the day. No, he didn’t forget them. He was the victim of a leaking bottle of Pinotage in his suitcase.
