Loots Bosman struck an unbeaten century to lead the Nashua Dolphins to a five-wicket win over the bizhub Highveld Lions on the fourth day of their SuperSport Series match at BidVest Wanderers on Sunday.

Full Scoring

The right-handed Bosman ended not out on 100 off 171 deliveries as the visitors reached 235 for five, an hour after tea, to record their first win of the season.

Fittingly, Bosman reached three figures, for just the fifth time in 93 first-class matches, when he struck the winning runs courtesy of a six off the bowling of leg-spinner Jonathan Vandiar.

Bosman’s innings was all the more valuable as the Dolphins had slumped to 58 for three in chasing the victory target of 233.

Cameron Delport and Bosman then steadied the innings with fourth-wicket stand worth 52 runs with the 20-year-old Delport showing all the exuberance of the youth as he raced to 37 off 41 balls with seven boundaries.

But, the visitors were rocked when Delport was trapped leg-before by off-spinner Werner Coetsee before Bosman and Jon Kent (27) combined for a fifth-wicket stand of 66.

Kent was caught behind off a delivery from seamer Ugasen Govender with the Dolphins still needing 57 runs for victory but David Miller (31 not out) and Bosman defied the home team’s bowlers with an unbroken sixth-wicket stand that produced 59 runs.

The normally aggressive Bosman brought up his fifty in typical fashion by thumping a delivery from medium-pacer Zander de Bruyn over mid-on for four but the opening batsman was generally restrained during his knock as he reached his half-century off 98 deliveries.

Fast bowler Freidel de Wet ended the innings with figures of two for 76.

Earlier, the visitors bowled the Lions out for 226 in their second innings, an hour before lunch.

The home side began the day on 179 for five and Thami Tsolekile and Zander de Bruyn added 11 runs to the total before De Bruyn was bowled by medium-pacer Kent for 45.

Tsolekile constructed a patient 47 not out off 130 deliveries but he failed to receive much support from his lower-order as fast bowler Quinton Friend accounted for De Wet (seven) and Panesar (nought).

Pumelela Matshikwe was run out for two before seamer Johann Louw claimed his sixth wicket of the match when he bowled Govender (one) as the Lions lost their last four wickets for 19 runs.

Louw ended the innings with figures of three for 40 while Friend picked up three for 49.
