KNZ tournament postponed

The tournament that was scheduled to be held in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday night has been postponed.

Two SA title fights and seven other bouts were on the bill but the tournament has been rescheduled. It will probably take place on December 9.

Reasons for the postponement are still unclear and details of the new arrangements are expected to be announced soon.

Topping the card of the Punch4Punch Productions box-and-dine show at the YMCA was a heavyweight clash between Wiseman Dlomo and Anton Nel.

Middleweights Christopher Buthulezi and Makhosonke Zwengu were to meet in the other SA title bout.

Dlomo was set to make the first defence of his national title. He and Nel would have met for the fourth time.

They first fought in December 2002 when Dlomo was unable to continue after a clash of heads, resulting in a fifth-round technical draw.

On July 26 the next year, Nel won their rematch on a fifth-round stoppage. They fought again on April 29, 2011 when Dlomo won the vacant SA title by knocking Nel out in the fifth round.

Dlomo now has a professional record of 20-9-2, with 9 knockouts. Nel, who is ranked fourth by Boxing SA, stands at 16-11-3; 12.

In a clash of former national lightweight champions, Irvin Buhlalu (25-7-1; 14) would have faced Patrick Malinga (27-8-2; 24) over ten rounds for the vacant WBF Africa title in the same division.
