Munyai dumps Prosper in third

Tshifhiwe Munyai knocked out Prosper Ankrah of Ghana in the third round of a fight scheduled for ten at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park on Wednesday night.

Munyai (53.34 kg), a former Commonwealth and the current WBA Intercontinental bantamweight champion, controlled the fight from the opening bell with his left jab.

The spoiling tactics of Ankrah (53.52 kg) did not stop the slick South African who continued to outbox Ankrah. In the third round an overhand right to the side of the head dumped the visitor on his side against the ropes.

Referee Phillip Durandt counted him out one minute 44 seconds into the round.

Munyai improved his record to 20-1-1, with 10 knockouts. Ankrah’s reported record dropped to 16-4; 2.

The judges were Amos Lusenga, Neville Hotz and Joe Chaane.

In a heavyweight bout on the undercard, Florante Simba (93.46 kg) beat his Congolese countryman and late substitute Papi Mondende (94.20 kg) one minute 18 seconds into the fight.

Mondende twisted a knee and was unable to continue.

In another heavyweight bout Johnny Muller (90.10 kg) stopped 38-year-old Patrick Madzinga (96.68 kg) at two minutes eight seconds of the fourth round of a fight scheduled for six.

Muller has shown marked improvement since joining trainer Harold Volbrect.
