Petrov blasts into series final

Fernando Carcamo and Petr Petrov will fight in the final of the Boxcine lightweight series on 23 May.

Carcamo defeated Miguel Gonzales on a majority decision in the semifinals in New Town, North Dakota, on Friday night. Petrov stopped Chris Rudd in the fourth round to reach the final.

The experienced Petrov gave Rudd no chance as he cruised to victory, taking his record to 34-4-2, with 15 wins inside the distance. Rudd’s fell to 13-2; 8.

Carcamo, who improved to 17-5, with 13 shortcut victories, had to work much harder. He won 78-74 and 77-75 on two cards but the other judge called it 76-76. Gonzales dropped to 23-4, with 16 knockouts.

The final will be held at Turning Stone in Verona, New York.

In Potsdam, Germany, veteran Robin Krasniqi knocked out Emmanuel Dansu from Ghana in the seventh round on Friday night.

The victory gave Krasniqi the vacant WBO international light-heavyweight title and moved his record to 42-3, including 16 knockouts. He could be in line for a fight against Sergey Kovalez, the WBO champion.

Dansu, who lost his unbeaten status and dropped to 20-1, with 18 shortcut wins, was fighting outside Ghana for the first time and was unable to match Krasniqi in any department.

Earlier, Steffen Kretschmann had to go the distance to beat Samir Kurtagic over eight rounds in a heavyweight bout. Kretschmann improved to 17-2, bit Kurtagix (12-6; 8) refused to become his 16th knockout victim.

In Lincoln, Rhode Island, 43-year-old Grady Brewer lost for the fifth consecutive time when Chris Chatman beat him on points over eight rounds in a middleweight bout – 79-73 on two cards and 80-72.

After almost 15 years in the business of professional boxing, Brewer now has a record of 30-19, with 16 knockouts. Chatman improved to 12-3-1, with 5 knockouts.
