Canadian to challenge Vitali

Vitali Klitschko plans to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Canadian Bermane Stiverne.

The 41-year-old Ukrainian has not announced a date or the venue but told a newspaper in Kiev, "There is an official contender, Bermane Stiverne. The fight will take place; we only have to set the date."

Klitschko last defended his title in September last year in Moscow when he beat Lebanon-born German Manuel Charr.

Stiverne, 34, was won 23 of his 25 professional bouts, 20 of them by knockout.

Klitschko's boxing future was uncertain after he became a member of the Ukrainian parliament, winning a seat for the opposition party Udar at the elections in October last year.

Members of parliament are not allowed to work in other areas under Ukrainian law.

Klitscko’s brother Wladimir is set to defend his IBF, WBA, WBO titles against Italian heavyweight Francesco Pianeta in Mannheim, Germany on Saturday night.

The bout will be televised live on SuperSport 2, with coverage of the preliminaries starting at 9pm (SA, CAT, GMT+2).
