Champ wins by 13 points
Two judges had Miguel Vazquez 13 points ahead at the end of his fight against Ameth Diaz at the weekend. The other card showed an 11-point margin.
Vazquez retained his IBF lightweight belt when he beat Diaz in Guadalajara on Saturday night.
The Mexican, making his third defence, improved his record to 30-11; 21 as he won by 120-107 on two cards and 119-108 in the third.
Diaz, who is from Panama, dropped to 30-11; 21.
In Liverpool, David Price had an even easier night out when he beat John McDermott in 73 seconds in a final eliminator to fight for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight title.
Price improved to 12-0; 10 and McDermott dropped to 26-8; 17.
In New York, 37-year-old former WBO junior welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley upset Gabriel Bracero, winning on points over ten rounds.
Corley improved his record to 38-10-1; 22. Bracero, the NABF light-welterweight champion, suffered his first loss and dropped to 18-1; 3.
OTHER WEEKEND RESULTS
Baja, California: Fighting at featherweight, former WBO super-bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon stopped Omar Estralla in the sixth round.
De Leon, whose record now stands at 42-4, with 35 knockouts, was coming off defeats against Adrien Broner and Yuriorkas Gamboa. Now he holds the WBC USNBC title, which had been vacant.
Estrella dropped to 15-4-2; 10.
On the same card, bantamweight Leo Santa Cruz (19-0-1; 11) stopped Alejandro Hernandez (24-9-2; 13) in the fourth round.
Philadelphia: Heavyweight Bryant Jennings improved his record to 12-0; 5 when he beat Maurice Byarm (13-0-1; 9) on points over ten rounds to win the vacant Pennsylvania State title. The scores were 97-93 and 96-94 on the other two cards.
In a junior middleweight bout, Gabriel Rosado (19-5; 11) stopped Jesus Soto-Karass (24-8-3; 16) in the fifth round.
St Charles: Light-heavyweight Shannon Miller (25-47-8; 18) beat Shawn Hammack (21-8-2; 15) on points over six rounds.
San Juan, Puerto Rico: Super-flyweight David Quijano improved to 14-2-1; 9 when he beat Javier Gallo (18-5-1; 10) on points over ten rounds – 98-91 on two cards and 97-93.
Mexico City: Osvaldo Razon (13-3; 8) beat Ivan Meneses (16-10-2; 9) on points over ten rounds in a bout for the vacant WBC Latin junior flyweight title.
Takao Sakurai, who won a gold medal at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, has died from cancer. Sakuri, a university graduate, had a professional record of 30 wins, 2 losses and 4 knockouts.
His losses were to Australian Lionel Rose in a challenge for the WBC and WBA bantamweight titles and to Mexican great Ruben Olivares.
