WBC champ scrapes through

Oleydong Sithsamerchai just retained his WBC strawweight belt when his fight against Pornsawan Por Pramook resulted in a majority draw in Thailand on Friday night.

Oleydong, whose record now stands at 22-3-1, with 16 knockouts, was in control through the first four rounds of the fight in Chiengmai.

Porsowan (22-3-1; 16) dropped the champion in the sixth round but the referee ruled it a slip. The two fought toe-to toe for the rest of the bout, although the challenger slowed towards the end.

Judges Franz Marti (Switzerland) and Benjamin Rendon (Mexico) both scored it 114-114 and Thawut Plumsamran (Thailand) had it 114-113 for Oleydong, who was making his sixth defence.

In Managua, Nicaragua, WBA minimumweight champion Roman Gonzalez, fighting at junior flyweight, stopped Jesus Limones in the second round of a non-title fight.

Gonzalez improved to 26-0; 22 and Limones now stands at 9-2-1; 4.

On the same card, former WBA lightweight champion Jose Alfaro (24-6; 21) stopped Joel Juarez (25-11-1) in the second round of a super-lightweight bout scheduled for ten.
