Robbery delays Vermaak hearing
The hearing of suspended Athletics South Africa (ASA) chief executive Frik Vermaak has been delayed after the ASA offices were broken into, the New Age reported on Monday.
Thieves broke into ASA's Houghton offices in Johannesburg on Thursday night and stole all the association's computers and other property, according to the newspaper.
The doors and ceiling were extensively damaged and a security guard was apparently assaulted, though it was not known how the robbers gained entry.
Due to the robbery, Vermaak's hearing scheduled for Monday was delayed to Thursday. He is charged with alleged misappropriation of funds and dishonesty relating to his employment credentials.
ASA president James Evans said: "So far, there has been nothing that I have been made aware of who the suspects may be, but quite clearly they took advantage of the big storm that night."
