Mokoka wins Great South Run
Olympic marathon runner Stephen Mokoka became the third South African to win the Great South Run in Portsmouth, England, on Sunday.
Mokoka crossed the line in 46 minutes, 40 seconds (46:40) to secure victory in the 10 mile (16.09km) race.
The South African held off Spaniard Ayad Lamdassem by four seconds, with Ethiopian Tariku Bekele, the Olympic 10 000m bronze medallist, finishing third a further second behind.
Jo Pavey of Great Britain won the women's race in 53:01.
South Africa has a rich history at the Great South Run, with national marathon record holder Gert Thys having won the race in 2000 and Hendrick Ramaala securing victory in 2004.
Other previous winners of the race include double Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah, multiple world record holder Leonard Komon, former world marathon champion Luke Kibet and former Olympic 10 000m gold medallist Khalid Skah.
