Rybakov and Zagorny to miss Worlds

Reigning world high jump champion Yaroslav Rybakov will miss the upcoming World Athletics Championships because of a foot injury, Russia's national squad head coach Valentin Maslakov said on Wednesday.

Alexei Zagorny, who performed the season's best hammer throw of 81.73m at Yerino on June 4, has also been forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

"Rybakov decided to miss the World Championships," Maslakov said. "He believed he would be able to overcome his foot injury. But it is still stopping him from producing his best result."

Maslakov said there will be no replacement for Rybakov.

He added: "Zagorny will also sit out the World Championships. Unfortunately we failed to heal his back injury completely."

The World Athletics Championships will take place at Daegu, South Korea, on August 27 - September 4.
