Yanit's 'omen' delivers Euro hurdle gold for turk

Not only did Turkey's Nevin Yanit dream of a women's 100m hurdles victory come true at the European Championships in Barcelona, Spain, on Saturday, all signs seemed to point to it, too.

Yanit won her first major gold with a Turkish-best sprint of 12.63 seconds, which is the same number of her hotel room and the last four digits of her mobile phone number - "it was like an omen for victory," she said.

Yanit's phone also rang soon after the win at Barcelona's Olympic Stadium as Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called to congratulate her after the emotional victory.

"I cannot believe what happened - it is crazy," she said. "In 2006 in Goteborg (Sweden), I dreamt about a gold medal and tonight I am European champion."
