Tamgho to skip indoor season
French triple-jumper Teddy Tamgho announced on Monday that he would skip the upcoming indoor season, opting to concentrate on his preparations for the World Championships in Moscow next August.
"I'm doing really well. I no longer have any apprehension," the indoor world record holder (17.92m) stressed during a press conference at the National Insititute of Sport (INSEP) in Paris.
"But in winter I don't have much to prove. I want to do lots of preparation, to take my time, not to drift about and risk arriving tired at the World Championships in Moscow."
Tamgho has not participated in a competitive event for 18 months owing to a fracture to his right ankle, which was operated on in July 2011, and a subsequent bone growth for which he underwent surgery last June.
The 23-year-old envisioned returning to action in March to April and hopes to challenge Christian Taylor, the American who became World and Olympic champion in his rival's absence.
Meanwhile, Tamgho will appear in court for assault on March 12 after his initial trial was adjourned in November.
The 2010 world indoor champion must appear to answer for his role in an altercation with an amateur female athlete and two other people at a training session in the southern French town of Boulouris in October 2011.
