Le Clos claims gold
The South African swimming team continued their Olympic preparations with another gold medal at the Sette Colli Championships in Rome, Italy, on Friday night.
Durbanite Chad le Clos was first in the water and topped the medal podium in the 200m butterfly, clocking a fast 1:55.87, over a second ahead of Japan's Kazuya Kaneda in 1:57.67 and Italy's Francesco Pavone in 1:57.71.
Later on in the competition, Le Clos concluded the 400m individual medley in fourth place with a time of 4:16.66, while Michael Meyer claimed the bronze medal in the B Finals of the same event in 4:26.71.
In the remaining races of the second evening's finals, Karin Prinsloo finished in fourth position in the 100m backstroke (1:01.22), while Darren Murray and Charl Crous came in fourth and fifth in the B Final of the 100m backstroke respectively.
Kathryn Meaklim missed out on a medal in the 400m individual medley when she ended in fourth place with a time of 4:47.63.
Following the Sette Colli Championships which ends on Saturday, the SA swimming team will be heading for a training camp in Pescara from 18 June to 8 July before they move on to the final pre-Olympic training camp in Monaco from 8 to 22 July.
