Le Clos heads SA Olympic qualifiers
Rising star Chad le Clos swam four Olympic qualifying times at this week's South African championships to announce himself as a real medal contender for the pool at the London Games.
The 20-year-old Le Clos, the short course world champion in the 200 metres butterfly, achieved Olympic times in the 200 fly, 200 and 400 metres individual medley and 200 freestyle. His only disappointment was on Sunday's final day of the nationals when he missed the Olympic time in the 100 butterfly.
World record holder Cameron van der Burgh qualified in the 100 metres breastroke as nine South Africans hit Olympic times at the weeklong nationals at the east coast city of Durban.
Multiple Olympic medallist Roland Schoeman went inside the qualifying time in the 50 metres freestyle.
