Le Clos wins World Cup Series
Teenage sensation Chad le Clos won the overall Swimming World Cup title when he secured his 23rd gold medal on the final day of the series on Sunday.
The 19-year-old South African clocked 1:43.79 to touch first in the men's 200m freestyle final at the last of seven meetings in Tokyo, Japan.
He also bagged silver in the 200m individual medley to go with two silvers and a bronze on the opening day for a five-medal haul in the Tokyo leg.
Le Clos, named Most Promising Athlete of the Year at the SA Aquatic Awards on Saturday, scooped 10 silver and two bronze medals for a total medal haul of 35 throughout the series.
He also pocketed the US$100 000 (approximately R800 000) main prize purse.
Australian star Ian Thorpe's Asia World Cup series ended in Sunday morning's heats when he finished 26th overall in the men's 100 metre butterfly.
