More medals for SA swimmers

South Africa's Chad Le Clos picked-up two silver medals and a bronze at the Fina/Arena Swimming World Cup final leg in Tokyo on Saturday.

The KwaZulu-Natal based swimmer finished second in the 200m butterfly with a time of 1:51,00.

He shared the podium with Japan's Takeshi Matsuda and Kazuya Kaneda who finished first and third respectively.

Le Clos' second silver medal came in the 100m individual medley when he touched the wall in a time of 53.33 with the gold going to Japan's Takurou Fujii who recorded a time of 52.78.

In a tightly contested 100m free-style race, Le Clos grabbed the bronze medal clocking 47.48 behind Australia's Kyle Richardson in 47.31 and Japan's Kenta Ito in 47.37.

Le Clos will be in action in the 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley races on Sunday.

This will be the final day of the Fina/Arena Swimming World Cup where the winner will claim the $100 000 (approximately R800 000) grand prize, with $50 000 on offer for second and $30 000 for an overall third-place finish.

La Clos is the most likely candidate to walk away with the grand prize as he was 70 league points clear of Japan's Hidemasa Sano after Saturday's races.

Meanwhile, Ian Thorpe's comeback bid continued to stutter, as he failed to reach the final of the 100m freestyle.
