Le Clos SA star of Youth Games
Samantha McIntosh fared best of the South Africans in action as the inaugural Youth Olympics started winding down in Singapore on Tuesday.
The young Pretoria based horserider ended fourth in the individual jump-off to narrowly miss another medal for Team South Africa.
Riding Little Miss Sunshine, McIntosh completed the jump-off in 40.32 seconds with no penalties. She finished one spot off the medals as riders from Uruguay, Colombia and Saudi Arabia took the medal positions at the Singapore Turf Club.
In the rhythmic gymnastics competition Aimee Van Rooyen ended 14th overall in the individual All-Around qualification. She finished 16th, 14th, 15th and 13th for the four rotations of qualifying, with scores of 20.450, 20.850, 20.350 and 21.250 for an overall tally of 82.900.
In the canoeing event, Kerry Segal lost to Canada in round one of the slalom competition. She clocked 2:01.86 and went on to the repechage, but her time of 1:59.67 was not good enough to oust China.
Luke Stowman lost to Spain in his first round of the sprint with a time of 1:54.67 and then beat his Belarussian opponent in the second round with a time of 1:42.91 before losing to Australia in the third round with a time of 1:46.22.
The girls hockey team lost their fifth and final match, losing the fifth-sixth place qualification encounter 3-1 to Ireland, to leave the games without a victory.
Team South Africa will return home with a total of 11 medals. Of these two were gold, five silver and four bronze.
Six of the medals came in the swimming competition, four in athletics and one in equestrian.
On an individual level, swimmer Chad le Clos was the star of the games for Team SA, winning one gold and three silver medals.
