Alshammar to miss world champs
Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar will miss out on the upcoming world championships as she is expecting a baby, but said she hoped to resume her career later this year.
"One of my biggest dreams is to try to continue to compete and see if I can develop and become even better, but that remains to be seen," Alshammar told SVT Sport in an interview broadcast late Tuesday.
Alshammar, 35, won the 50m freestyle world title in Shanghai 2011, and took a silver in the 50m butterfly.
She won two silver medals in the same events at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
The baby is due in June, and if all goes well Alshammar hopes to resume competing at the end of the year.
