Italy capture men's waterpolo world title

Italy won their first men's waterpolo world championships gold medal since 1994 when they beat Serbia 8-7 after extra time in Shanghai, China, on Saturday.

The final had finished locked at 6-6. Italy took the lead in the first period of extra time, only for Serbia, the winners at the last world championships in Rome, to equalise when Filip Filipovic scored.

Maurizio Felugo grabbed the game-winning goal with 35 seconds remaining in the first period of overtime.

Croatia beat Hungary 12-11 earlier to win the bronze medal.
